CALT/CSLT Programs Striving to Achieve State Electrical License Renewal Recognition

One key initiative at NALMCO is to have the Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician (CALT) and Certified Senior Lighting Technician (CSLT) programs recognized by individual states as a source of continuing education units toward electrical licensure renewals. This recognition already exists in California and Wisconsin

This initiative is another added value for NALMCO members.

The process for state recognition uses two strategies. The first includes meeting with our local chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) to gain support. The second is taking the CEU issue directly to our local state licensing boards. However, this is a much larger undertaking and we need your help. We, as an organization, must collectively address continuing education units on a state by state basis. We are looking for volunteers who will help us advance our goals within their own state. California Non-Residential Lighting Technician School 149

In 2007, the State of California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Apprenticeship Standards identified that NALMCO is a recognized school with approved curriculum for a Non-Residential Lighting Technician supplemental on-the-job training program. The course includes the apprentice 'Lighten Up' training manual and senior 'Illuminations' training manual, both required to enroll in NALMCO School #149. Technicians must enroll as individuals in the program and have one year from enrollment to pass both the Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician (CALT) and the Certified Senior Lighting Technician (CSLT) exams to have successfully completed NALMCO's course. If a technician does not achieve the CSLT designation, then they can reenroll if necessary. Click here to enroll.
