Exam Details

Administration:
Exams are offered in person at NALMCO-sponsored events or online through a secure platform with biometric identity verification and AI-assisted monitoring.

Exam Content Areas:

  • Characteristics and application of lamps, ballasts, fixtures, and controls
  • Lighting layout design and applications
  • Energy conservation strategies
  • Lighting maintenance, recycling, and disposal
  • Sustainable lighting practices

Exam Window: 180 days from registration

Eligibility Requirements

Experience Criteria:

  • Minimum of 3 years in lighting management + bachelor’s degree, or
  • Minimum of 5 years in lighting management

Additional Requirements:

  • Role directly impacting lighting systems
  • Agreement to NALMCO Code of Ethics
  • Review of the CLMC Candidate Handbook

Within 24–48 business hours, candidates receive their NALMCO Identifier and secure exam access link via email from AllianceSafetyCouncil.org.

Prepare for Success

Content review sessions are conducted prior to NALMCO-sponsored events and are strongly recommended. These sessions reinforce key concepts and provide opportunities for discussion.

Registered candidates also receive access to a recorded session and additional study resources through the Knowledge Center.

Recertification

Certification must be renewed every three years.

  • $300 renewal fee
  • 40 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

CEUs can be tracked through your NALMCO profile. Renewal invoices are issued in September of the expiration year.
